Οταν κάποιος ρώτησε τον Βασιλιά της Σπάρτης Δημάρατο, γιατί οι Σπαρτιάτες θεωρούν άτιμους αυτούς που πετούν την ασπίδα τους και όχι αυτούς που πετούν τις περικεφαλαίες και τους θώρακες,αυτός απάντησε:
